Justice Hansen speaks out

While delivering the verdict on Harbhajan issue, Justice John Hansen did not forget to rap all parties concerned that included Harbhajan, Symonds, Australian players, ICC and Match Referre Mike Procter.

Firstly, he blamed the ICC goof-up for a lesser punishment to Harbhajan Singh. Hansen said he was under the impression that it was Harbhajan's second mistake. It was told to him by the ICC. However, soon after pronouncing the verdict, he came to know that Harbhajan had been penalized by the ICC at least 4 times in the past and most significantly in November 2001, he and three other Indian players had been fined 75 per cent of their match fees and given a suspended one Test ban for dissent. Hansen also admitted that he tried to figure out if he could change the verdict, but could not do so as he was powerless to do that.

"At the end of the day Mr Singh can feel himself fortunate that he has reaped the benefit of these database and human errors", Hansen said.

Hansen was critical of Symonds' remarks that "a Test match is no place to be friendly with an opposition player". Justice Hansen said "If that is his view I hope it is not shared by all international cricketers. It would be a sad day for cricket if it is". Hansen said Symonds admitted that he provoked Harbhajan Singh. Symonds had claimed that he had gone to the rescue of Bret Lee, with whom Harbhajan had an argument. However, Hansen said Harbhajan had just patted Lee saying 'well-bowled'.

Hansen made it clear that barring Sachin Tendulkar, no other players heard what transpired between Harbhajan and Symonds. Tendulkar admitted that both Harbhajan and Symonds had sworn at each other during which Harbhajan uttered the words "Teri Maa Ki" (a local slang) which sounded like "Monkey" to Symonds. Hansen also said that Symonds had breached the agreement on not abusing each other. He sonsidered the evidences given by Tendulkar as more substantial and reliable than the Australians.

The Australian players contradicted themselves during the hearing process. While Symonds himself admitted that he initiated the exchange and was abusive towards Harbhajan Singh, Michael Clarke said he did not hear Symonds saying anything. Hansen expressed surprise on this.

Justice Hansen was critical of all parties involved in the confrontation at the SCG, saying "their actions do not reflect well on them or the game". Justice Hansen also took an indirect dig on Match Referre Mike Procter by expressing his displeasure on the lack of formality and rigid transcription at the original hearing, recommending that such precautions be taken in future.

Not Harbhajan, Diplomacy won in Australia

Millions of cricket fans celebrate the "victory" of Harbhajan Singh in the racism row. But it's the back-door diplomacy between BCCI and Cricket Australia, which won the day at Adelaide. The Cricket Australia made it clear to its players that it can't afford a pull out from the BCCI.

Earlier, the BCCI had threatened to pull of the series if racism charges against Harbhajan is not dropped. According to Australian media sources, the BCCI had gone up to the extent of booking a chartered plane to fly its players home had the verdict gone against Harbhajan.

The Australian players are fuming the way their board Cricket Australia let them down. They were determined to teach Harbhajan a lesson and damage his morale forever. However, that did not happen. On the contrary, the Aussies had to face humiliation before the world. They secretly admitted that it was the money power shown by Indian cricket board that forced them eat humble pie. Ironically, Symonds had to testify before the Judge that he did not remember what Harbhajan said. He also admitted of provoking Harbhajan to utter foul language.

Harbhajan admitted that he abused Symonds with the words "Teri Maa Ki..." which is considered a slang in Hindi. He denied of using "Monkey" word. Even the Judge had to ask Sachin Tendulkar and others to know the exact meaning of the word. Since the charge was minor under Level 2.8, Harbhajan was fined only 50 per cent of his match fee (Rs. 75,000 only). He walked out with his head on a high, while the Australians who rallied against him, came out
of the court dejected and disgusted.

Australian media have taken strong exception to way the entire issue was handled. Almost all newspapers and TV channels have criticized the Cricket Australia and BCCI for bringing the game into "disrepute". They have termed the day of judgment as "Cricket's day of shame".

Noted sports columnist Peter Roebuke, who turned against the Australian players after Sydney test fiasco, writing in the Sydney Morning Herald , said India's threat to fly its players home if the appeal failed was "amongst the most nakedly aggressive actions taken in the history of a notoriously fractious game." "If this is the way the Indian board intends to conduct its affairs hereafter, then God help cricket," Roebuck added.

Bowing to the pressure of millions of cricket fans in the country, the BCCI stood by its players through thick and thin. However, it's not taking any more chance. According to reports, the board has asked its players, particularly Harbhajan and Sreesanth to cut down their aggression in the upcoming tri-series and control their emotion. The recent crisis was the worst in cricket history after "Bodyline" series. It will be in the interest of the game, if such incidents do not occur again.

Gavaskar not invited to present Gavaskar-Border Trophy

Ever since the Gavaskar-Border Tophy was constituted, it was always presented to the winning team by both Sunil Gavaskar and Alan Border. However, it did not happen this time. Since Gavaskar had taken on the Australians for labelling racism charges against Harbhajan and also cricitized umpires Steve Bucknor and Mark Benson and match referee Mike Procter on the Sydney test fiasco, the Cricket Australia made its displeasure public by not inviting to present the Gavaskar-Border trophy to Ricky Ponting at the presentation ceremony after Adelaide test.

The issue was raised by TV commentator Ravi Shashtri. When Border walked up to present the trophy to Ponting, he expressed surprise and asked Gavaskar why he was not there along with Border although the trophy was named after him. Before Gavaskar could say anything, Harsh Bhogle said that Australians have forgotten the grace after getting involved too much in the issues that were not in the interest of cricket. Gavaskar too expressed surprise and attributed it to the obvious reasons.

Shaun Tait retires from Cricket

In a shocking development, 24 year old Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait decided to quit all forms of cricket indefinitely. He said he needed a physical and mental break. Tait recently returned to the Australian squad after 2 years. But he failed to make any impact on a lively wicket on Perth. He could not even take a single wicket in the match.

According to sources, Tait's decision was based on emotion and he needs a rest from cricket to recover from the trauma he is going through. In his own words, “A break from professional cricket will hopefully give me a clear mind and a chance for my body to rest and recover.”

New twist to Harbhajan case, "Racism" charges likely to be dropped

Breaking News!!! If the media reports are to be believed, racism charges against India's ace spinner Harbhajan Singh is likely to be dropped, as both Indian and Australian players have reportedly agreed to downgrade the charges to "use of offensive language".

A letter signed by Australian captain Ricky Ponting and India's star batsman Sachin Tendulkar was submitted to ICC Appeals Commissioner Justice John Hansen. The letter has urged the Judge to downgrade charges against Harbhajan Singh from level 3.3 to level 2.8. Level 2.8 is applicable to use of offensive language and it may carry a penalty of 1 test or 2 ODI ban or a stricter fine. But "racism" charges will be completely removed.

According to some other sources, Andrew Symonds who labelled the charges against Harbhajan, fumbled during the hearing and told the Judge that he did not remember anything. Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke, Matthew Hayden, Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds, Harbhajan Singh, Sachin Tendulkar and BCCI lawyer VR Manohar are present at the hearing. The hearing is being held at the Adelaide Federal Court building.

Injustice to Virender Sehwag, Consolation for Sachin Tendulkar

If we ask who should have received the "Player of the Match" for the Adelaide test, everyone would admit that ideal choice was Virender Sehwag. Sehwag scored 63 and 151 in both innings and bagged two important wickets including that of Ricky Ponting.

Sehwag scored a century in the second innings when Indian batting line-up looked fragile with key players getting out and Dravid getting injured. While the entire team scored 269, Sehwag's contribution was 151. But the "Player of the Series" went to Sachin Tendulkar who scored 153 in the first innings. What could be the reason behind such a controversial decision???

Sachin was the highest run-getter in the series. But the panel wanted to award the "Player of the Series" award to Brett Lee who took 24 wickets in 4 test matches. That's why the "Player of the Match" award was given to Tendulkar as a consolation, but at the cost of Virender Sehwag.

Adelaide test ended in a draw, Australia win the series 2-1

As expected, the fourth and final test between India and Australia ended in a tame draw. Both captains decided to stop the game when they were assured that no result was possible in this test. At that stage, India were 269/7. Virender Sehwag made a brilliant 151 to help India reach the safe zone. He had made 63 in the first innings besides taking 2 wickets.

Sachin Tendulkar was adjudged "Man of the Match" and Brett Lee bagged the "Man of the Series" award for his 24 wickets in four matches. Australia won the series 2-1 and retained Gavaskar-Border Trophy.

Hansen to use "New Evidences" in Harbhajan case

Justice John Hansen, who was appointed by the ICC as the Appeals Commissioner to hear racism charges against Harbhajan, has outlined the procedures for the hearing. According to Hansen, the witnesses would attend the hearing in person and they would not be required to give evidence under oath.

"There may also be some additional evidence, such as the transcript available from the stump microphone, which was not available to (ICC match referee Mike) Procter," Justice Hansen said. The latest "evidences" from stump vision microphone has caused concern within Team India and BCCI.

The BCCI has dismissed any such evidences and demanded the immediate removal of "racist" tag from Harbhajan Singh. If the charges against Harbhajan is upheld, India is likely to pull out of the Australian tour without playing the tri-series.

Team India adamant on Harbhajan issue, Australia tour in Doubt

Breaking News! The Indian team management has taken a strong stand on the racism charges labelled against Harbhajan Singh. Just a day before ICC's Appeals Commissioner Justice Hansen hears the case, the team demanded immediate removal of racism charges against Harbhajan.

The BCCI has also thrown full weight behind its players and has refused to bow down to ICC. It was confirmed by BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah. The BCCI dismissed the talk of new evidences found against Harbhajan and made it clear that it would not accept any such evidences.

According to sources, Australian players are unwilling to back down on this issue even if Cricket Australia has decided to go soft. If the verdict on Harbhajan is upheld, then Indian team is likely to pull back from the tri-series and return home. The team will hold an emergency meeting in the evening to discuss their strategy.

The Adelaide test is heading for an exciting finish, as Australia grabbed 2 wickets in the morning, besides sending Rahul Dravid retired hurt. Virender Sehwag found his rhythm back in this test. After scoring 63 in the first innings, Sehwag scored a century in the second innings. Sehwag was on fire, as he scored boundaries and sixes. India were 166/3 when reports last came in. Sehwag was batting on 115. It would be interesting if Australia can pick up a couple of Indian wickets at this stage. That would lead to an exciting finish at Adelaide.

Sehwag said, "They only scored 260 in a day. This is not like Australia. Last time we came here they scored 400 in a day. I think they're scared about defeat." "On a flat track they scored 260 in a day and lost three wickets so there must be something wrong in their batting lineup, or maybe something wrong in their thinking," he added.

On Friday night, a leaked copy of Procter's statement was splashed across the Internet, which confirmed the allegations.

Procter wrote, "The first issue for me is did Harbhajan Singh say the word "monkey" or "big monkey"? I have heard evidence from Andrew Symonds, Michael Clarke and Mathew Hayden that he did say these words. Harbhajan Singh denies saying these words. Both umpires did not hear nor did Ricky Ponting or Sachin Tendulkar. I am satisfied and sure beyond reasonable doubt that Harbhajan Singh did say these words."

Rift widens within Team India, It's Kumble vs Dhoni

The beleaguered Australian team received a major boost on the eve of Adelaide test, as Team India got divided between two groups. One group is led by Anil Kumble and has seniors VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly. The other group is led by MS Dhoni and is backed by Yuvraj Singh and a few other players. The latest rift is attributed to the exclusion of Ganguly, Dravid and Laxman from the ODI aquad on Dhoni's behest.

Dhoni played a dictator and virtually vetoed Ganguly's inclusion in the team. Ironically, Ganguly was the one who supported Dhoni through thick and thin when he was struggling to find a place in the national team. Another out-of-form batsman who voted against Ganguly was Yuvraj. It was the same Yuvraj whom Ganguly supported when the whole country was baying for his blood.

These two ungrateful cricketers played a dirty game to hit at the seniors who always provided patronage to the team. Ironically, team's physical trainer Gregory King too supported Dhoni and Yuvraj's point of view. Sachin Tendulkar's stand on this issue is not immediately know. But it's certain that he would back the senior pros who were meted out a shabby treatment by some arrogant juniors and "unwise" selectors.

The entire drama took place just ahead of the crucial Adelaide test match, in which India seeks to redeem its pride by levelling the series. But the recent developments have dented the morale of the team and upset the seniors who have made significant contribution to India's historic win at Perth. If India lose the test match at Adelaide due to this intra-team rivalry, will the millions of cricket fans forgive Dhoni, Yuvraj and BCCI selectors?

ICC takes on Sunil Gavaskar on "Harbhajan" issue

International Cricket Council (ICC) president-elect David Morgan has expressed concerns over cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar's recent comments on Match Referee Mike Procter in the wake of a controversial ban on Harbhajan Singh. Morgan said, Sunil Gavaskar, who holds the post of ICC Cricket Committee Chairman, should not have made such "outspoken comments".

It could be recalled that Gavaskar slammed Procter after the later slapped a three-match ban on Harbhajan Singh on the racism charge made by Andrew Symonds, though there was no conclusive evidences against the Indian. Procter believed what Aussies said, whereas he completely ignored Sachin Tendulkar's statement.

A section of Australian media and some former cricketers such as John Reid (New Zealand) and Barry Richards (South Africa) had flayed Sunil Gavaskar for commeting against Mike Procter despite holding a top post within the ICC. Morgan admitted that there was concern within ICC about Gavaskar's dual role as the Chief of the Cricket Committee and as a commentator.

Ganguly's axing defies logic

When the selectors dropped Sourav Ganguly from the ODI squad, it came as a shocker for not only Ganguly, but also for the millions of cricket fans in the country. Ironically, the news came when the nation was celebrating its team's exceptional performance at Perth, in which they humbled the mighty Australians. Even Ganguly's detractors are upset over the way he was again handed over a shabby treatment.

Since his comeback in January 2007, Sourav has scored 1,240 runs in 32 matches on an average of 44.28. He scored 12 half centuries with the highest score being 98. In terms of average, he was India's most successful batsman in the last 12 months. If we consider the number of runs scored, Ganguly was on fourth position among all players in the world for 2007. It's really shocking and surprising that he was dropped despite delivering the best.

Why Ganguly was dropped? Reports suggest that Chief Selector Dilip Vengsarkar was in favor of Ganguly's selection. But his decision was vetoed by two other selectors and the captain Dhoni. It's really difficult to believe that Dhoni, who always received support from Sourav Ganguly, would do such a condemnable job. But, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) joint secretary Samar Pal sees Dhoni's hand in Ganguly's axing, as Dhoni did not want seniors in his team.

Another reason could be the phasing out of senior players by BCCI selectors. After India's disastrous performance in the World Cup and spectacular performance in the Twenty20 World Cup, there have been demands for replacing the senior players with energetic juniors in the team. It seems that BCCI selectors are doing exactly the same thing. They not only dropped Dravid, Laxman and Murali Kathik, but also an in-form Sourav Ganguly from the team.

Whatever may be reason, Ganguly axing cannot be justified. The selectors preferred to do their experiment against top teams like Australia and Sri Lanka on Australian soil. It may prove costly for the morale of the team, which looked rejuvenated after the win at Perth.

Selectors draw flak over ODI Team Selection

Just a day after Indian cricket team brought glory to the country by winning the Perth test, Indian selectors did a 'heinous' job of upsetting the team by dropping Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Saurabh Ganguly from the ODI squad from the upcoming tri-series against Australia and Sri Lanka, which will begin on February 1, 2008. Interestingly, Laxman and Dravid played a crucial role in India's historic win at Perth.

Cricket fans across the globe and former cricketers slammed the selectors for selecting the ODI team just ahead of Adelaide test, where India hope to square the series. With the "Big Three" Dravid, Ganguly and Laxman feeling low over the sudden sacking, Indian team's morale is bound to reach a bottom low ahead of a key test match.

According to sources, Sourav Ganguly was shocked over his omission from the ODI squad, as he has been performing consistently ever since he was recalled to the squad. Dravid also expressed huge disappointment, as he hoped to get another chance after his resilient performance at Perth. The selectors did not even inform Ganguly and Dravid about their exclusion from the team. Ironically, Sourav Ganguly has been India's most successful ODI batsman over the last 12 months.

The selectors have decided to opt for the youth over the experienced players. But analysts question the wisdom of the selectors, as it is always risky to expose the youth before two powerful ODI team - Australia and Sri Lanka that too on the difficult Australian soil. A mixed blend of youth and experiences could have bolster the Indian team. Now Sachin Tendulkar remains the only experienced player in the team.

Historic win for Team India at Perth, Celebrations across the Country

A rejuvenated Indian cricket team registered a historic win at WACA, Perth, when they beat Australia by 72 runs. Indian team under the leadership of Anil Kumble rose from the dust and humbled the mighty Australians on a wicket, which was considered as a graveyard for Indian batsmen due to its bouncy nature. India's famous win at Perth bring cheers to millions of cricket fans across the country, who were upset at the controversies aftermath Sydney test.

Chasing a victory target of 413, Australia bowled out for 340. Ponting and Hussey scored 45 and 46 respectively. Johnson contributed 50, while Clark made 32. Michael Clarke was the top scorer with 81. For India, Kumble, RP Singh and Sehwag took 2 wickets each. Pathan took 3 wickets. Irfan Pathan was adjudged "Man of the Match".

Australia's dream winning streak came to an end, when they failed to seek a world record of 17 consecutive test wins. Now, Ricky Ponting's team would have to start afresh. From the Day 1, India established firm control of the game and never let the Australians off hook. In the absence of regular bowlers Zaheer Khan and S Sreesanth, Irfan Pathan, R P Singh and young Ishant Sharma delivered much above the expectations and duly supported by other team members.

Just after R P Singh took the final wicket, Harbhajan Singh rushed to his teammates on the ground with a tri-color in hand. He was hysteric. It was an emotional moment for him and the team.

Anil Kumble led from the front and showed before the world that when it comes to the pride of the country, Indians never give up and rise to the occasion. No wonder, if he dedicates this famous victory to the nation. Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Dravid, Irfan Pathan, Sehwag and others contributed well to help India keep up the momentum. It was a team effort that broke the Australian ego and pride and unfurled the Indian tri-colour. Congratulations Team India! Congratulations Anil Kumble!

The title may come as a surprise to many. But this is true. Indians, playing for their pride, applied themselves, and turned the heat on the aggressive Australians. At the end of second day's play, India finished at 52/1. India now has 170 runs lead with 9 wickets in hand. Virender Sehwag is playing on 29.

If India could stretch its lead to more than 300 runs, it has a chance to make history by winning the Perth test. India winning a test match in Australia, that too on the fastest wicket in the world - WACA, Perth! A miracle is waiting to happen.

Kumble joins the Elite Club of 600

Indian skipper Anil Kumble joined the elite club of test bowlers, who have claimed 600 or more test wickets so far. Symonds edged to Dhoni, the ball jumped off Dhoni's glove, reached Dravid's hands, who was in the first slip. Indians were ecstatic, but Rauf kept quiet. Indians kept appealing. Here goes Rauf's finger up! Celebrations begins! History is made at Perth.

Symonds became Kumble's 600th victim. He made 66. Kumble became the third bowler after Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan to take 600 wickets in test cricket. He achieved this miestone in his 124th test match. Congratulations Kumble!

Rogers was unlucky to be given out

Chris Rogers, who made his test debut at Perth, got a poor decision, as umpire Asad Rauf yet again succumbed to pressure and gave him LBW off Pathan's delivery. Pathan's vociferous forced Asad Rauf raise his finger, while the TV replays showed that ball was going down leg side.

It could be recalled that Rauf had made a similar mistake when he adjudged Sachin Tendulkar LBW off Brett Lee's delivery. Since it's a high profile contest and the Sydney test controversies have not died down yet, umpires are bound to feel pressure. However, they need to be cautious while raising their fingers.

Battle of Perth: Shaky start by Australia, India on Top

Pathan and RP Singh did, what Brett Lee and Shaun Tait failed to do. The Australians talked about finished it off in less than three days. But the determined Indian proved them wrong with a courageous display at Perth. First, India scored a competitive total of 330 in the first innings. Then, they removed three top order Australian batsmen with just 14 runs on board.

Pathan got the wickets of Jaques and Rogers, while R P Singh soon after removed Hussey for a duck. Australia were 22/3 when reports last came in. Ponting and Clake were batting (and battling) for Australian pride.

Battle of Perth: Mixed Day for Team India

Indian batsmen got out when they looked solid. It happened thrice if we don't include Sachin's dismissal, who got a bad decision from Asad Rauf. Sehwag threw his wicket when he was going well on 29.

Dravid played a wrong shot off part-timer Andrew Symonds while he was batting on 93 and Laxman too failed to judge the ball and perished on 27. At stumps, India were 297/6. Dhoni and Pathan remained unbeaten at the crease. For Australia, Lee took 3 wickets.

Ghost of Poor Umpiring: Sachin got a poor decision at Perth

On the very first day of Perth test match, Pakistan's umpire Asad Rauf made a blunder by giving Sachin Tendulkar LBW when the ball was going much above the stumps. Sachin was batting brilliantly and the Australians were clueless how to remove him. But the bullying tactics of the Australians again played the trick. Brett Lee appealed vociferously and Rauf raised the finger.

Not only cricket fans, but also the commentators felt disappointed that umpiring standard did not improve even after a big controversy that shocked the cricket world and saw Steve Bucknor booted out. Sachin was batting on 71, when he got out. It could be a turning point in this game and might change the course of the game.

However, they both got out when they looked solid and set. Sehwag scored 29 and Jaffer made 16. At lunch, India were 74/2. Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar were batting at the crease.

Perth Test: India wins toss, bats first

Indian skipper Anil Kumble surprised everyone by opting to bat first after winning the toss in the third test match at Perth. Everyone expected Kumble to field first on a juicy green turf. But Kumble took a bold decision. It is to be seen how the Indian batsment justify their skipper's decision.

India has dropped Yuvraj and Harbhajan from the squad and brought in Virender Sehwag and Irfan Pathan. Australia replaced Brad Hogg with fast bowler Shaun Tait and brought in Chris Rogers in place of injured Hayden. For India, Jaffer and Sehwag will open the innings.

In another interesting development, Indian skipper Anil Kumble scrapped the catching agreement between the skippers. He took the decision in the wake of unfair practice adopted by some Australian players including their skipper Ricky Ponting during the Sydney test. Ponting has expressed disappointment on Kumble's decision.

Kumble, Ponting call 'truce', India drops charges against Brad Hogg

In a significant development that may bring relief to millions of cricket lovers in the world, Indian skipper Anil Kumble and his Australian counterpart Ricky Ponting have called truce in the presence of ICC Referee Ranjan Madhugale who was sent by the ICC to mediate between the warring teams.

Both Anil Kumble and Ricky Ponting expressed satisfaction over the talks and maintained that all differences have been sorted out. Kumble sais, it's time to move on with the game. He also said that Perth will mark a new beginning between the relations between both teams.

Since India has taken an initiative by withdrawing charges against Hogg, it is expected that Australia will reciprocate by withdrawing the charges against Harbhajan Singh. Ten Most "Hilarious" Sledging incidents in World Cricket

The controversy surrounding the Sydney Test match between India and Australia once again brought "Sledging" into limelight. Sledging has become a part of world cricket and almost every team is doing that. Players resort to sledging in order to distract their opponents' focus on the game. Sometimes, sledging and banters sound funny and interesting. But at other times, they just turn ugly.

We have listed the top ten sledging incidents from world of cricket, not necessarily in the order they were listed. Here you go:

1) Rodney Marsh (Australia) and Ian Botham (England)

Rodney Marsh to Ian Botham in an Ashes match: “So how’s your wife and my kids?” Ian Botham's reply - "The wife's fine. The kids are retarded !"

2) Javed Miandad (Pakistan) and Merv Hughes (Australia)

Javed Miandad called Hughes a fat bus conductor during a match. A few balls later, Hughes dismissed Miandad. “Tickets please,” said Huges, as he ran past the departing batsman.

3) Glenn McGrath (Ausrtralia) and Ramnaresh Sarwan (West Indies)

McGrath to Ramnaresh Sarwan: "So what does Brian Lara's di*k taste like?"Sarwan: "I don't know. Ask your wife.

McGrath (lost his cool): "If you ever F**king mention my wife again, I'll F**king rip your F**ing throat out."

4) Douglas Jardine (England) and Bill Woodfull (Australia)

England player Jardine complained that one of the Australian players called him a bastard. Australian captain Bill Woodfull turns to his team, points to Jardine and asked “Which one of you bastards called this bastard a bastard?”

5) Mark Waugh (Australia) and Adam Parore (New Zealand)

Mark Waugh standing at second slip, Adam Parore played & missed the first ball. Mark - "Ohh, I remember you from a couple years ago in Australia. You were shit then, you're ••••••• useless now". Parore- (Turning around) "Yeah, that's me & when I was there you were going out with that old, ugly slut & now I hear you've married her. You dumb ••••".

6) Steve Waugh (Australia) and Parthiv Patel (India)

When Steve came (Steve's last test match) to bat, Parthiv said, "Come on, just one more of the famous slog-sweeps before you finish" Steve-"Respect Me...for when i made my test debut You were still in your nappies".

7) Glen McGrath (Australia) and Eddo Brandes (Zimbabwe)

Aussie paceman Glenn McGrath was bowling to Zimbabwe number 11 Eddo Brandes - who was just missing each ball. McGrath, frustrated, went to him and inquired: "Why are you so fat?"Quick as a flash, Brandes replied, "Because every time I make love to your wife, she gives me a biscuit."

8) Ravi Shastri (India) and Mike Whitney (Australia)

Shastri hits the ball towards Mike Whitney (the 12th man in the game) and looked for a single. Whitney said, "If you leave the crease i’ll break your f***ing head". Without battling an eyelid, Shastri retorted, "If you could bat as well as you can talk you wouldn't be the f***ing 12th man".

9) Sunil Gavaskar (India) and Viv Richards (West Indies)

To ease the pressure on himself, Sunil Gavaskar had decided to come lower down the order and bat at No 4 for that particular match. But, Malcolm Marshall fired out Anshuman Gaekwad and Dilip Vengsarkar for ducks, setting the stage for Gavaskar to walk in at 0/2. Viv Richards said "Man, it don't matter where you come in to bat, the score is still zero."

10) Viv Richards (West Indies) and Merv Hughes (Australia)

Viv Richards hit Merv Hughes for four consecutive boundaries in one over. Merv stops halfway down the pitch, farted loudly, and said to Viv: “let’s see you hit that to the boundary!” Viv was dumb-founded.

Symonds: Racist Taunts from Friends okay

Andrew Symonds, who took the cricket world by storm with the claim that Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh offended him with racial slur, now says that he would welcome racial taunts from friends who know him, but not from rivals. According to Symonds, friends too often call him "Monkey" and he just laughs at it. But he felt highly offended when a rival like Harbhajan passed the comment.

Just when India and Australia are trying to calm down the charging atmosphere and restore cordial relations, Symonds' latest statement added insult to India's injury. We have a question for Mike Procter, ICC, Cricket Australia and many others who defend Australian cricket team and Symonds. If racial comment is not allowed in cricket in any form, then how can Symonds say that he would take it lightly if that comes from a friend?

Symonds' statement clearly suggests that he had a personal vendetta against Harbhajan Singh while filing the complaint. Also, it would work in Harbhajan Singh's favor during the next hearing. For the time being, it seems a conspiracy was hatched against Harbhajan to make him sit out and hit Indian team's morale.

Ricky Ponting: My parents are getting 'abusive' calls

The recent cricket controversies have shaken Australian skipper Ricky Ponting from inside. His biggest moment in Sydney test turned out to be his worst nightmare. In an interview to Sydney's The Daily Telegraph, Ponting revealed that his parents have been forced to change their telephone number after receiving abusive calls.

According to Ponting, his family was under tremendous pressure amid calls for his sacking. A number of people called his parents in the past few days to take a dig on Ponting and his attitude. Severe criticism from all quarters forced Ponting to admit that there could be areas in which his team could improve.

Ponting also said that he wanted Australian team members to be "remembered as being good people as well as great cricketers". According to latest reports, the Australia team would re-watch highlights of the Sydney Test to make sure that some of the "arrogant" behaviour that outraged even their own countrymen is not repeated again.

ICC pulls up Australian Cricketers

Australia is a superpower in cricket. They are the World Champs. Nobody doubts their cricketing skills and even players across the world take a cue from their game. But when it comes to bad behavior, sledging and arrogance, Australian cricketers come to the foray again. The recently concluded Sydney test exposed the real attitude of the Australian cricketers before their own countrymen and the world. Even the ICC Chief Malcolm Speed had to step in.

The ICC has urged Cricket Australia to reign in its cricketers in view of the widespread criticism of their on-field behavior in the Sydney test. ICC CEO Malcolm Speed asked the Cricket Australia (CA) to take notice of the criticism being directed at its team by the public, former players and commentators.

Talking to the Herald Sun, Speed said, "All national teams should play cricket in the right spirit. We need to be clear what that means". It vindicated Indian skipper Anil Kumble's statement that only one team played in the true spirit of the game.

Win or Lose, Play it like Australia

Let's take a break from the controversies that raised high emotion in a country of more than 1 billion people. Cricket is a religion for millions of Indian fans and they worship the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Dhoni as demi-gods. It is no surprise their anger and emotion explode when something went against their players.

It's true that Bucknor and Benson made several "unforgivable" mistakes that changed the course of the game. However, here the question is did we play up to standard?

We can't absolve our cricketers of the responsibilities they carry on their shoulders. Indian fans are always unpredictable. I remember how Ravi Shastri had to spend more than a month in Hong Kong after the 1992 World Cup, in which he batted slow in every match.

Shastri had taken 112 balls balls to score 57 runs against England. India lost the match by 8 runs. In another match against Australia, Shastri again batted slowly with no success and India lost that match by 1 run. When India was booted out of the World Cup, his house was attacked. Shastri could return to India only when normalcy returned.

Similar incidents are very common in India. Even the great Sachin Tendulkar was booed on his home ground in Mumbai. Dhoni's house in Jharkhand was attacked when India lost to Bangladesh in the World Cup 2007. Ironically, the same Dhoni was bestowed with the first "Jharkhand Ratna" (Jewel of Jharkhand) award when India won the Twenty20 World Cup. In the recent years, players like Dravid, Kaif, Yuvraj, Harbhajan, Ganguly and Irfan Pathan had to face humiliation when India lost badly in any tournament or series.

Yes, we were at the receiving end of Sydney Test. We got maximum number of bad decisions. The umpires looked like supporting the Aussies even though they were not. They hit India every time when it looked solid. But should we have lost the game?

Forget about the dismissals of Draid and Ganguly. With Kumble and Dhoni at the crease, India was all set to save the match. But our batsmen failed to apply ourselves. We lost Dhoni, Harbhajan, R P Singh, Ishant Sharma at quick successions. And, they did not get any unfair decisions. It's outrageous that three of our last batsmen fell in the penultimate over of the match (with seven balls to go) to a part-time bowler Michael Clarke while their skipper was stranded fighting a lone battle. Can we forgive our batsmen for their misdeed.

We got two bad decisions in the Sydney Test. But what about Jaffer, Laxman, Tendulkar and Yuvraj? Didn't they let millions of cricket fans down with their poor performance? They faltered when Indian needed them badly. Nothing was written against them, as other things took center stage.

Every cricket lover in India will admit that Australia is much better than India when it comes to playing cricket. They know how to win. They are hungry for success. Despite the mind game, sledging and other behavioral problems, they still rule the roost in the cricket field. They have proven it time and again. Why can't we play like them? Our players get the maximum benefits from cricket. The BCCI and entire country support them when something goes wrong. Do they really live up to our expectations?

Sydney test is history now. Bucknor is out. We have two good umpires Billy Bowden and Asad Rauf for the third test. Let's move on to Perth and see how Indian players apply themselves. They got what they want. They received huge support from India and abroad. Everyone put their weight behind them when they needed the most. They received sympathy both in India and Australia. Now what? Will they be able to win Perth and Adelaide for the country? They win or lose, it's to be seen what exactly they do while playing for the pride of 1.4 billion people.

Australia tour to continue, but BCCI talks tough

The BCCI has decided that India's Australia tour will continue despite the current controversies. While BCCI has welcomed ICC's decision to remove Steve Bucknor from the series, it has taken a tough stand on the racial charges made against Harbhajan Singh.

The BCCI has made it clear that it would not settle for anything less than the revocation of the ban on Harbhajan and a clean chit to him on the racial charges. The board condemned the ban and termed it as totally unacceptable. The BCCI also called the racial charges against Harbhajan "baseless" and "obnoxious".
The working committee meeting of the BCCI also decided that current tour to Australia and other related developments would be reviewed continuously. The BCCI Chief Sharad Pawar has been given the authority to take decision in the best interest of the country and cricket. the BCCI urged the ICC to resolve the Harbhajan issue at the earliest.

We don't have "racism" in Indian Society

People, who say that Harbhajan made racial remarks against Andrew Symonds, must know that "racism" is not prevalent in Indian society. Being a poor and underdeveloped country for long, India has been witnessing divide on the basis of religion, caste and poverty. But the common people hardly know anything about "racism".

On the diplomatic level, India has been a strong opponent of racism that prevailed mainly in South Africa, England, Australian and many other African and European countries. In those countries, white people used to inflict atrocities on the black people. In fact, as India was ruled by the British for more than 300 years, its people were subjected to humiliation, bias and discrimination on the basis of color and race.

Remember, Indian took the initiative to get South Africa banned from World Sports in 1970, as black people in that country were subjected to highest racial abuse. Similarly, India helped South Africa to return to the mainstream of sports, after things returned to normal in 1992. It is hard to believe that an Indian can racial abuse a foreigner. Ironically, Indians are considered black or brown by the foreigners.

It is not known what exactly Harbhajan Singh said to Andrew Symonds. Even if we rule out any conspiracy angle, it is certain that Harbhajan did not make any intentional racial remark. I can bet that he is not even qualified to understand what racism is and how it has affected the Australian society. Keeping these things in mind, either he should have been issued an warning for using offensive language or should have penalized in terms of his match fee. Again, no on racial charges, but for making "any" abusive remark.

India and Indians cannot take the racism charge lightly. They will fight against it until Harbhajan is cleared of charges. Till date, no Indian has been ever found guilty on any racial charges in any level, forget about cricket. Then how can a nation of 1.3 billion people keep quiet when one of leading cricketers is charged of racial abuse in a country that has long traditions of racism. The ball is in ICC's court. Hopefully, the matter will be sorted out peacefully. If the ban continues on Harbhajan, then world cricket will be in jeopardy.

Malcolm Speed changes stand, says Bucknor, Benson not up to Standard

Barely two days after ICC CEO Malcolm Speed gave a clean cheat to the umpires Steve Bucknor and Mark Benson, he had to eat his words and admitted that both umpires were not up to standard during the Sydney test match. He announced the removal of Steve Bucknor from the ongoing test series and expressed confidence that tour will go on.

Speed maintained that ICC did not remove Bucknor on BCCI request. He was removed because he made several wrong decisions in the match that changed the course of the game. He also said that Bucknor ouster was in the interest of game and it will help all to move on from here. New Zealand's Billy Bowden and Pakistan's Asad Rauf will officiate in the Perth test. Mike Proctor would continue as a Match Referee.

Greg Chappell speaks: "Better team won at Sydney"

Guru Greg Chappell, former Indian cricket coach and Chief of 'Future Cricket Academy' in Rajasthan, added insult to injury, when he said, "the better team won the Sydney test". He termed the bad umpiring decisions as human errors.
Chappell also added that third umpire also could make mistakes, as technology available today is not foolproof. Our advice for Chappell: don't venture out alone on Indian roads from tomorrow. May god save you Mr. Chappell!

ICC: Bucknor to officiate in Perth Test, Series in Danger

Breaking News! The ICC has just clarified that Steve Bucknor will officiate in the 3rd test match between India and Australia at Perth. ICC spokesperson Sami-ul-Hasan made it categorical that there is no question of removing Steve Bucknor. The latest development has put the current series in danger. BCCI sources and team management unofficially made it clear that if Bucknor stays, the series would be scrapped.

Some other sources say that ICC 's latest stand is attributed to the fact that it has not received any official appeal from the BCCI on Bucknor issue. It might be forced to take a definite stand when it receives the official letter from Indian board.

Australians support Harbhajan

I just stumbled upon a NDTV.com article, titled "Aussies rally behind Harbhajan" that says how the Australian public and a section of media have rallied behind Harbhajan Singh. They think Harbhajan is innocent and was unfairly targeted by Ponting and co. It really touched my heart. For more details, read here.

Racist! Who? Not Indians, They are Australians

The Australian cricketers say Indian players are racist. They claim Harbhajan made the racial abuse. But facts say otherwise. It were the Australians who made the racial abuse in the past and got punished too. Here, we are not talking about the Australian people. We are talking just about a bunch of Australian cricketers who brought the wonderful game of cricket into disrepute.

It was an Australian who was the first ever to be banned for racist remarks. Darren Lehmann of Australia was suspended for five ODIs over a racial remark in the earshot of the Sri Lankan dressing room during the 2002-03 cricket series.

It was Shane Warne, who called Makhaya Ntini, "John Blackman" during the second test match in 2005. Later, he was cleared of the charges due to lack of evidence. Fortunately for him, there was a man called John Blackman.

Remember another Australian, Dean Jones, who was banned by Ten Sports he called Hashim Amla a 'terrorist' on live television during the fourth day's play between Sri Lanka and South Africa at Colombo. The incident occurred in 2006.

During the second day of the Boxing Day test match at Melbourne, Indian cricket fans were subjected to racial slur by Australian supporters. It was confirmed by Herald Sun, Australia. Did anyone bother?

Can Australia take high moral ground on blaming the Indians of racial charges? There is no audio or video evidence to prove that Harbhajan made the racial remarks. It's a matter of time when Harbhajan will be cleared of all these baseless charges. However, it's high time Australian cricketers make a self-introspection. Nobody doubts their skill and power. We all admire their game, but we strongly condemn the way they play to win.

Team India rebels, BCCI supports team, toughens stand

Breaking News! It's rebellion down under. The Indian team, upset and enraged over bad umpiring and Harbhajan's ban, has revolted and decided not to play further unless the issue is sorted out with immediate effect. The team refused to go to Canberra to play in the practice match and decided to stay back in Sydney.

The BCCI confirmed the news and held an emergency meeting at BCCI President Sharad Pawar's residence. It was decided in the meeting that Indian team won't play until the current issue is resolved. The BCCI has demanded immediate ouster of Steve Bucknor and Mark Benson from the elite panel and revocation of ban on Harbhajan Singh. The BCCI thundered that it would not accept racism charges against any of its players under any circumstances. It was also decided that Indian team will stay back in Sydney until further instructions.

Breaking News: ICC withdraws Bucknor from 3rd Test

Breaking News! Bowing to demands from Indian team management, BCCI and Indian public, the ICC has decided to withdraw Steve Bucknor from the 3rd test match between India and Australia to be held in Perth.

The announcement was made to avert any major cricket crisis. ICC's decision came as a humiliating blow to Buckner who made several wrong decisions against India in the Sydney test match, which eventually proved costly for the team, as it lost to Australia by 122 runs.

Nation outraged, India may cancel the Australian Tour

If we believe the media reports and insider sources besides the logical facts, India may abandon the Australian tour. The Indian team management, BCCI, media and more importantly, millions of cricket fans across the globe are outraged over the way they were treated by the Australians, umpires and match referee.

Even if the BCCI wants to continue with the tour, Indian public won't allow it to do so. Emotion was on a high after India lost the Sydney test match due to worst kind of umpiring. The ban on Harbhajan added insult to injury. The nation's pride is at stake. Can BCCI afford to ignore the public emotion???

Harbhajan Singh banned

In a shocking development, the Match Referee Mike Proctor banned Harbhajan Singh for 3 test matches on the racial abuse allegation made by Andrew Symonds and other Australian cricketers. Although there was no conclusive evidence against Harbhjan Singh, it is surprising the match referee took such a controversial decision.

The BCCI and Harbhajan Singh would appeal against the ban within 24 hours. Harbhajan would be provided with all legal help by BCCI. It appears clear that Mike Proctor openly supported the Australians even though there was no evidence against Harbhajan. He just believed their words.

India needs to rethink on Jaffer and Yuvraj

Forget about the bad umpiring or bad sportsmanship of Australian cricketers that triggered India's loss in the Sydney test. That's history now. Now we have to sit and make a self-analysis. India has lost its main pace bowlers Zaheer and Sreesanth due to injury. Harbhajan may face a ban if found guilty of the racial abuse charge levelled against him by Andrew Symonds.

Australians are getting aggressive and dirtier. Umpires support them openly. So, what should be our strategy to deal with the situation? Drop Yuvraj and Jaffer without wasting time. Bring Sehwag in and recall Akash Chopra or Parthiv Patel into the squad. Parthiv Patel will be a better option, as he might be able to replace a fragile Dhoni.

Bring Sreesanth if he is fully fit. Also, we must give a chance to Pankaj Singh who may prove to be a trump card against Australia. If Harbhjan faces test ban, the BCCI must send Murali Karthik to Australia. The BCCI has 10 days to act before India takes on Australia on Perth. It's time we tweak our strategy and take tough decisions in the interest of Indian cricket.

Yuvraj's form hit bottom low, thanks to Deepika Padukone

Yuvraj Singh, who was in great nick until the last few weeks, suddenly finds himself at the receiving end. In the first two test matches in Melbourne and Sydney, the team management relied on Yuvraj and left out Sehwag. Dravid had to open the innings to accommodate Yuvraj. However, Yuvraj failed to live up to expectations and got out cheaply in all four innings.

What could be the reason? Experts attribute Yuvraj's failure to his new relationship with Deepika Padukone, who is currently in Sydney to watch the test series at Yuvraj's invitation. Yuvraj not only paid for the trip, but also celebrated Deepika's birthday on Jan 5. When India needed the most on the last day of Sydney test, Yuvraj disappointed millions of fans by getting out for a duck. If Yuvraj continues to play like this, the day is not far when he will go into the record book as a former cricketer.

Kumble lashes out

Can the Australians celebrate the Sydney test victory in right spirit? If they do, they must be called cheaters. The world saw what happened on the field. The Australians never deserved to win the test match. If they did win, it was just for worst umpiring. Indian skipper Anil Kumble broke his silence and lashed out at the Australians. Kumble said, "players should be honest on the field" His statement was directed towards Ponting, Clarke and other Australian players.

Kumble made it clear that only one team (India) played in the true spirit of the game. At the post-match conference, Kumble directed his gun at the Australians and umpires. He said, "everyone saw the game today and know what happened". He also added that India lost for wrong reasons though they fought hard till the end. According to team manager Chetan Chauhan, the Indian team is agitated and upset about bad umpiring and wants BCCI to take stern action on this issue.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has decided to take up the matter with the ICC. According to BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla, the board is in the process of drafting a letter that would be sent to ICC. It will decide the future course of action once it received a reply from the ICC. Bowing to media and public pressure and sharp reaction from the current and former players, the BCCI talked tough and vowed to pursue this matter further.

Umpires win it for Australia, Cricket loses

Finally, Bucknor and Benson smiled. They won it for Australia. Yes, they are not Australian cricketers. They were the umpires of the Sydney test match. From the day 1, they tried their best to win it for Australia.

Despite the best efforts from the umpires, Indians almost saved the match. But Michale Clark's 3 wickets in the penultimate over of the match, changed the game and Australia won by 122 runs.

The Indian team was bowled out for 210. For India, Ganguly scored 51. Dravid also contributed 38. Kumble remained unbeaten on 45. Dhoni made 35. India lost the match only 7 balls to go. Symonds was declared "Man of the Match". It is Australia's 16th consecutive test win, which is a world record.

Did the umpires collude with Australians against India?

If we analyze the Sydney test from close angles, we have enough reasons to believe that match umpires Steve Bucknor and Mark Benson colluded with the Australians to help them win the match. Here are a few points that strengthen such belief:

1) On the Day 1 of the Sydney test, India were on the kill. Australia were losing quick wickets. Ponting edged the ball to Dhoni. But umpires said otherwise. They ruled him out on 55. But it was too late. Ponting built the innings along with Hussey.

2) Australia were tottering at 134/6. Symonds was struggling to get his feat. He edged to Dhoni off Ishant Sharma. Everyone saw the nick. Indians were celebrating. But Bucknor smiled and ruled Symonds not out. Symonds was batting on 29.

3) Symonds was stumped by Dhoni. Umpires referred to the third umpire. TV replays showed Symonds' feet outside the crease. Shocking! Third umpire ruled him not out.

4) Symonds edged again to Dhoni. But umpires did not bother. Not out! Verdict pronounced. Indians were shocked. Who will take Symonds' wicket? No one. He remained unbeaten on 162 and helped Australia score 463.

5) The drama continued on the fourth day. Michael Clarke gave a clean catch to Dravid off Anil Kumble. But to the surprise of everyone, he stood there. He looked at the umpire. Eye contact appealed for mercy. Indians were shocked. They appealed again vociferously. Umpires did not have any option but to rule Clarke out.

6) Mike Hussey was given a reprieve by the umpires on 45. He later went on to score an unbeaten 145.

7) The drama continued again on Day 5. Ponting took a stunning catch that cam off Dhoni's pad, dropped it to the ground, the ball was dragged on the grass. But he continued to appeal. He looked at the umpires. But umpires looked helpless and could not oblige him. Narrow escape for the Indians.

8) Dravid missed the ball off Symonds. The ball kissed his pad. The bat was nowhere near the ball. The Australians appealed. Bucknor obliged. Dravid was given out. Shocker for the Indians! Dravid was going well and just scored 38.

9) Ganguly was in good form. He looked solid and aggressive, completed the half century. Umpires looked tense. Australians looked them for help. This time, the shocker came from Mark Benson.

Ganguly edged to Clarke. Clarke took the catch on bounce, then dropped again to the ground, but went up and celebrated. Australian fielders joined him. Ganguly did not leave the crease. Benson stepped in. He did not refer it to the third umpire. Instead, he sought Ponting's help. No prize for guessing what Ponting said. "Out", said Benson and Ganguly departed dejected.

Do we need any more proof to say that umpires rigged the match in Australia's favor. If India lost, then it was due to poor umpiring. They also had the sympathy of Australian people, who admitted that Indians were subjected to gross injustice. Is ICC watching? Will BCCI protect its players? Our morale is down and pride is at stake.

Another shocker, this time from Mark Benson

Both Steve Buckner and Mark Benson have vowed to help Australia win the match. And they are on the way to do that. After Buckner ruled Dravid out wrongly, Benson gave another shocker by ruling Ganguly out when the fielder took the catch on bounce. It was clearly visible on TV replays.

Clarke took the catch, celebrated and joined by the fielders. But Ganguly did not leave the crease, he waited there. Mark Benson stepped in, he did not refer to the third empire. He asked Ponting - his god, whether the catch was taken or not. Ponting said yes and Ganguly was asked to leave. Ganguly was out for 51, and Indian lost another wicket, not to Australians, but to the hostile umpires.

Go to Hell Mr. Bucknor, you have brought Shame to Cricket

Enough is enough. If there is a better place for Steve Bucknor, it's the Hell! Yes, I mean it. The series of bad decisions he gave in the Sydney test is a clear indication that he has gone mad and not fit to stand as an umpire in the international matches. All his wrong decisions went against Indians. Was it deliberate?

India is on the verge of losing the Sydney test, as Bucknor continued his tirade against the Indians on the last day of the test match too. He just gave Dravid out caught behind when the bat was nowhere near the ball. It was a complete shocker to everyone. Rahul and Saurabh were going well and they were all set to save India in the test match. But Bucknor did it again.

After Dravid's departure, Yuvraj made an early exit without bothering the scorers. India were 118/5 when reports last came in. With two more hours remaining in the test match, India is on the verge of losing the match that it should have won but for poor umpiring.

India needs 333 to win the match, loses 2 early wickets

The Sydney test poised for a close finish with Australia declaring their second innings at 401/7, setting a target of 333 for India to win the test match. Hussey, who was given a reprieve by umpire Benson while batting on 45, went on to score an unbeaten knock of 145. Symonds too scored 61. For India, Kumble took 4 wickets.

The bad umpiring in the match deprived India an outright victory in the Sydney test and gave a new lease of life to Australia. Chasing a victory target of 333, India lost Jaffer for a duck. Jaffer failed for the fourth successive time in the series and paved the way for a new opener for the next test match. Laxman looked good, but perished at 20. India were 48/2 when reports last received. Dravid was batting on 18 and Saching Tendulkar was on 8.

Umpiring reaches new low in Sydney Test

Had there been a harsh punishment for poor umpiring in cricket, Steve Bucknor and Mark Benson would have received death penalty. They changed the course of Sydney test match by ruling Ponting and Symonds not out when TV replays showed that they were out. Symonds got three decisions in his favor and went on to score an unbeaten 162, which virtually took the match out of India's reach.

Even the third umpire joined Bucknor and Benson to rule Symonds not out. It seemed as if the umpired took money to fix the match in Australia's favor. On the Day 4, the umpires committed more blunders. Benson gave Hussey a reprieve on 45 when he nicked the ball to the fielder off R P Singh. Hussey is still batting on 87. On another occasion, Bucknor denied Kumble a hat-trick by ruling Symonds not out on the very first ball he faced.

When Michael Clarke nicked the ball to the slip fielder, even a kid had no doubt in his mind. But Clarke had other thoughts in his mind. He hoped to get the umpires' backing and did not leave the crease for a while. Even umpires did not budge. The Indians were in shock and they vociferously pressed for the decision. Finally, the umpires relented and Clarke was given out.

The state of umpiring in Sydney test is so pathetic that critics and fans have demanded for strict action against Bucknor and Benson. Some even demanded that Bucknor must retire from umpiring, as he has become too old to see the ball and take the right decision. If the Sydney test ends in a draw, then guess who should win the "Man of the Match" award? Steve Bucknor and Mark Benson should share it.

Symnods accuses Harbhajan of racial abuse

In a sensational development, Australian batsman Andrew Symonds has accused Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh of racial abuse on the third day of the second test match at Sydney. Harbhajan has been reported by umpires Steve Buckner and Mark Benson under clause 3.3 of the International Cricket Council code of conduct.

If proved guilty, Harbhajan could be banned for the remainder of the Test series against Australia. According to Symonds, Harbhajan reminded Symonds of the "monkey chant" he had to face in India. Australian captain Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden and other were agitated over the incident and reported the matter to the on-field umpires. Next hearing would take place tomorrow. Both Harbhajan and the Indian team management would attend the proceedings.

Earlier, Saurabh Ganguly scored 67, before Brett Lee rocked the Indian middle order by removing Yuvraj, Dhoni and Kumble. India were 415/7 when reports last came in. Sachin was batting on 100, while Harbhajan was going well on 38.

India not to lodge formal complaint against Umpiring

The Indian team management decided not to lodge any formal complaint against the poor umpiring. The initial reports suggested that BCCI had asked the Indian team management to report the matter to the ICC. However, later the team management decided against it. It expressed regret over the state of umpiring and feared that it could cost India badly.

It could be recalled that on-field umpires Steve Buckner and Mark Robinson as well as the third umpire had ruled Symonds not out at least thrice while the TV replays proved otherwise. Ricky Ponting was given not out when he nicked the ball. He was batting on 17 at that time. Later, he was given out LBW on 55, when replays showed that he edged the ball before it touched his pads.

A solid partnership between Dravid and Laxman helped India to fight back after Jaffer got out cheaply. Dravid and Laxman were out on quick successions after providing India a good platform. India were 185/3 when reports last came in. Laxman fell on 109, while Dravid got out for 53.

Latest Update: India finished the day on 216/3. Saurav Ganguly is bating on 21, while Sachin Tendulkar remains unbeaten on 9.

Umpires favor Symonds, Australia in command in Sydney Test

Veteran umpire Steve Bucknor committed the biggest blunder of his career by ruling Symonds not out when he clearly nicked to Dhoni off Ishant Sharma. At that stage, Australia was struggling after losing 6 wickets and Symonds was batting on 30.

If that was not enough, the third umpire made another blunder by ruling Symonds not out on a stumping appeal, when TV replays showed that he was out. Later, he went on to score an unbeaten 162, which was enough for Australia to escape from an embarrassing position and put 463 on board. Brett Lee contributed 59. Kumble and R P Singh took 4 wickets each. Now the pressure is back on the Indians.

In reply, India started on a shaky note by losing Jaffer early. However, Dravid and Laxman fought back to put Indian on track. India were 117/1 when reports last came in. Laxman was batting on 82, while Dravid was batting on 25.

Australia were 95/2 at lunch, thanks to a solid partnership between Ponting and Hussey. However, Harbhajan bowled a deadly spell after lunch and grabbed 2 wickets supported by RP Singh's 2 more wickets to reduce Australia to 134/6. Ponting made 55, while Hussey scored 41. Australia were 169/6 when reports last came in. RP Singh took 4 wickets, while Harbhajan took 2 wickets.

Dravid to open again, Sehwag left out

Failing to learn from its failure in Melbourne test, India yet again went into defensive by choosing Dravid to open the innings. Virender Sehwag was left out from the 12-member squad announced by the team management ahead of the Sydney Test.
There is a question mark over Zaheer Khan's availability, as he suffered a muscle pull during net practice. Irafan Pathan will get the nod if Zaheer fails to recover on time.

India should play Sehwag, drop Yuvraj

Dravid is not the right choice when it comes to opening the innings. Dravid has been under tremendous pressure ever since he decided to step down from captaincy. It is really not wise to ask him open the innings down under, when his place in the team is not secure. Despite the concerns on his form and techniques, Sehwag is the right choice for Team India to open the innings.

It can be expected that Sehwag and Jaffer can form a formidable opening pair against the Australian pace attack. If anyone is to be dropped from the squad, it should be Yuvraj Singh. Although Yuvraj is a great player with tremendous potential, the present set up in the team requires him to sit out. He has to make way for a regular opener.
