Ajantha Mendis makes Test Debut, Sri Lanka 85/2 at Stumps

Rain and bad weather played a spoilsport in the much-awaited first cricket test match between India and Sri Lanka. Play was possible for only 22 overs. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. Ajantha Mendis made his test debut.

Sri Lanka lost its first wicket with only 7 runs on board. Ishant Sharma bagged MG Vandort's wicket. Zaheer claimed the prize wicket of Kumara Sangakkara. At that stage, Sri Lanka were 57/2. Sri Lanka finally finished the day at 85/2. BSM Warnapura remained unbeaten on 50. Jayawardene was batting on 16.
