Sourav Ganguly named Castrol Asian Cricketer of the Year
Sourav Ganguly, who was dropped from the ODI squad at the behest of skipper M S Dhoni, put eggs on the faces of Indian selectors, by winning the Castrol Asian Cricketer of the Year award. The awards were given in Karachi yesterday. Ganguly also won the best overall batsman prize for his outstanding performances in 2007. He scored 1106 runs in test cricket and 1240 runs in ODIs in 2007.Mutthiah Muralitharan was adjudged the best overall bowler and best test bowler. Kumar Sangakkara won the best Test Batsman award, while Farveez Maharoof received the best ODI bowler award. Sahin Tendulkar received the best ODI batsman award.
Gautam Gambhir bagged the best Twenty20 batsman award. Yuvraj Singh was presented a special award for his six sixes in an over in the Twenty20 World Cup. Umar Gul was the best Twenty20 bowler, while Kamran Akmal received the best fielder award. The panel that picked the winners in various categories, included Rahul Dravid, Wasim Akram and Sanath Jayasuriya.
