Reverse Countdown begins, India set to suffer innings defeat at Motera

When South Africa landed in Ahmedabad, they never expected such a warm welcome from weather and pitch. When India won the toss and elected to bat first, there was some movement in the wind and South African bowlers took full advantage of it. As a result, India bundled out for a meagre 76 in the first innings. When South Africa came to bat, the weather was hot, which made Indian bowlers sweat on the field and South African batsmen had it easy.

When rain stopped play on the second day, South Africa were 494/7. The overnight rain changed the atmosphere and South Africa did not let the opportunity go. They surprised everyone by declaring their first innings at the overnight score of 494/7 and sent India to bat again. South African bowlers were on the offensive again and India lost Sehwag, Dravid and Jaffer with only 70 runs on board. India were 78/3 when reports last came in. South Africa's innings victory now remains only a formality.
