IPL Auction: Symonds costly, Ponting, Hayden cheap

The third round of IPL Auction threw huge surprise, as Andrew Symonds turned out to be the most sought-after cricketer after Dhoni. Symonds was bought by Hyderabad for Rs. 5.4 crore. It could be recalled that Dhoni was bought by Chennai for Rs. 6 crore. Matthew Hayden and Ponting did not get much attenion in the bidding process. While Ponting was bought by SRK's Kolkata for Rs. 1.6 crore, Hayden was bought by Chennai for only Rs. 1.5 crore.

Brett Lee was relatively better, as he was bought by Mohali for Rs. 3.6 crore. Chennai bought Jacob Oram for Rs. 2.7 crore. While Daniel Vettori was bought by Delhi for Rs. 2.5 crore, Brendon McCullum went to Kolkata for Rs. 2.8 crore. Michael Hussey, Glen McGrath and Mohammed Yusuf were retained as reserve players, as they did not recieve any bid.
