Graeme Smith, McKenzie set to break Vinoo Mankad, Pankaj Roy's record
The 52-year old record of Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy is set to be broken, as South Africans Graeme Smith and Neil McKenzie are on the verge of creating a history in the Chittagong test against Bangladesh. The duo have added an unbeaten 405 runs for the first wicket on a day when nothing went well for Bangladesh bowlers. They now need only 9 runs to break the world record hold by the Indians for 52 years. It could be recalled that Vinoo and Pankaj had created an opening partnership of 413 runs against New Zealand in Chennai in 1955-56. It would be interesting to see if the South Africans hold on to their nerves and create history. Smith is batting on 222, while McKenzie remained unbeaten on 169.
