Kumble scores a point, Ponting on back foot
With Indian skipper Anil Kumble decided to drop all charges against Brad Hogg, Ricky Ponting and the Australian team find themselves on back foot. Kumble managed to score a point over his rival and proved before the world that Indians can rise to the occasion when it comes to larger interest of the game. Kumble clearly stated that Cricket is larger than any individual; hence, he decided to drop the charges and move on with the game.Hats off to Kumble! It's high time Ponting and the Australians realize the importance of the game and reciprocate by dropping the charges against Harbhajan Singh. It would be interesting to see what stand Ponting would take now. It will prove which team plays cricket in true spirit. Let's hope that good sense prevails at last and cricket wins.

Sagar, I wish the world were to be so simple and straight forward. Gandhigiri is not worth it. Australia must be laughing behind our back.. Sorry a wrong move by India team.
Still, I don't agree. It's smart move. It will help India to fight the case on Harbhajan, as Australians are bound to go slow on this issue. If they don't, the world will again lamast them, which they don't want, as they are in the process of improving their public image.
Secondly, if the ban on Harbhajan is upheld, then India will have the option to pull out of do some kind of muscle-flexing to bring ICC to its knees. However, it won't be possible if there is a ban on BRad Hogg. Because the world will say, "Hey, if Brad Hogg can be penalized, why not Harbhajan?" But now India is a free bird. They will say, we have forgiven Hogg. But Australians are still insisting on Bhajji's ban. Who wins? Who takes the moral high ground? Certainly, it's India. It's masterly stroke. Impact would be much higher in the coming days, I can bet.
The Hogg charge would never have held up. Before the4 series both sides signed off on a list of words thet the two teams found racially offensive. THis word was npot on the list and the charge would have been thrown out. It is a little embarrassing as Kumble has admitted it was a tit for tat charge and it made us look petty.
Imraan is wrong. You can't decide what is racist term and what is not. There is no such list. And, no such list was prepared before the series. I don't know where Imraan got this info, may be from some cheap reading.
Secondly, the charges were grave. When India made the charge, the match referre did not take any decision in haste. It took the ICC three days to frame charge against Hogg. They would have rejected the charge outright, had such so-called list existed.
You can't say which is offensive, "Monkey" or "Bastard". Imraan, I am sure you won't react much, if I call you a "Monkey". But if I call you a "Bastard", you would chop my head. Reason, you know. So, should I say anything more???
BTW, we all are from monkey origin, says Charles Darwin. Isn't it? And, Symonds said he would welcome such a comment from friends, not from rivals. What an irony!!!
