India needs 333 to win the match, loses 2 early wickets

The Sydney test poised for a close finish with Australia declaring their second innings at 401/7, setting a target of 333 for India to win the test match. Hussey, who was given a reprieve by umpire Benson while batting on 45, went on to score an unbeaten knock of 145. Symonds too scored 61. For India, Kumble took 4 wickets.

The bad umpiring in the match deprived India an outright victory in the Sydney test and gave a new lease of life to Australia. Chasing a victory target of 333, India lost Jaffer for a duck. Jaffer failed for the fourth successive time in the series and paved the way for a new opener for the next test match. Laxman looked good, but perished at 20. India were 48/2 when reports last received. Dravid was batting on 18 and Saching Tendulkar was on 8.
