Sri Lanka beat England in 1st Test

Sri Lanka finally thwarted the defiance of England lower order batsmen to win the first test match in Kandy by 88 runs. Chasing a victory target of 350 runs, England could manage only 261 runs. Ian Bell scored 74, while Matt Prior made 63. Muralitharan bagged 3 more wickets in the test match to take his tally to 713 in test cricket.

Kumara Sangakkara who became the first player to score in excess of 150 in four consecutive test matches, won the "Player of the Match" award.
