Australia inflicts humiliating defeat on India

India crashed to a humiliating defeat against Australia in the first test match in Melbourne. Chasing a victory target of 499, Indian team surrendered meekly before mighty Australia and bundled out for 161. Australia won the test match by 337 runs. For India, only VVS Laxman and Saurav Ganguly offered some resistance by scoring 42 and 40 respectively. Matthew Hayden was declared "Man of the Match".
