The BCCI has sprung a surprise with the announcement of former South African batsman Gary Kirsten as the front-runner to become the Coach of Indian cricket team. He was interviewed by the Coach Selection Committee on Monday. The committee included Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri and S Venkataraghavan, BCCI Joint Secretary M P Pandove, Treasurer N Srinivasan and secretary Niranjan Shah.

According to sources, BCCI President Sharad Pawar and skipper Anil Kumble too met Gary Kirsten. Kirsten has in principle agreed to take up the high-profile job. However, final announcement will be made within a week.
