First test match between India and Pakistan begins

The first test match between India and Pakistan begins at Ferozeshah Kotla ground in Delhi. Anil Kumble lost his first toss as a captain. Shoaib Malik won the toss and elected to bat first. India missed the service of R P Singh and S Sreesanth due to injury, while Yuvraj Singh had to sit out.

Pakistan's Umar Gul was also ruled out because of an injury. Munaf Patel and Ishant Sharma found their place in the playing eleven. Pakistan were tottering at 59/3 when the last report was received.
