India wins the Twenty20 World Cup

Joy and celebrations erupted across the country and the millions fans residing outside India jumped with ecstasy, as MS Dhoni lifted the Twenty20 World Cup. India won the World Cup, beating Pakistan by 5 runs in a nail biting finish. India's moment of glory came just when everyone has give up hope. But Dhoni's young team held into their nerves and recreated the magic of 1983.

Chasing the victory target of 158, Pakistan started well, but lost wickets at regular interval. At one stage, the team was tottering at 77/6. However, it staged a comeback and almost won the match, thanks to the late outburst from Misbah and Tanveer, but fell short by 5 runs. Pakistan bowled out for 152 with 3 balls to spare. Nazir made 33, while Younis Khan scored 24. Misbah contributed 43. Irfan Pathan was declared "Man of the Match", while Shahid Afridi won the "Player of the Tournament" award.
