BCCI launches Indian Premier League (IPL)

The BCCI finally decided to take on the Indian Cricket League (ICL). Ending the suspense that loomed for a few weeks, it launched the Indian Premier League (IPL) on the lines of English Premier League in soccer and the National Basketball League (NBA) of the USA. The launch was a big one with Glenn McGrath, Stephen Fleming, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble, ICC President Ray Mali and Chiefs of various cricket boards gracing the occasion with their presence.

The IPL talks big on Money front. There will be $5 million prize money for the Champions of Twenty20 League. In addition, the players will have a chance to play in the Champions Twenty20 League to be organized by the ICC. There will be 59 matches in total and they will be spread over 44 days. All the matches will be played under lights. There will be two matches every day. Now it's certain that player will reap a big harvest in the ongoing war between ICL and IPL.
